Im going to speculate that he was playing with an illness Saturday night (game 4) and then something happened late in the 2nd period with his left ankle / left leg (someone posted a screenshot). I bet ankle sprain.

I just hope he's not having concussion symptoms or something and they're just covering it up
One thing that needs to be looked at
The leafs played some desperate teams down the stretch
Every key guy got hit ,or put themselves in a vulnerable situation to get rocked
Including mathews going balls out trying to get 70
They have assed the last 10 games
Instead u ramping up
That's coaching

It's one of two things:

- Concussion from Game 80 when he fell into the boards.
- Partial Knee Tear from the incident with McAvoy in Game 3.

He is out due to in injury for sure, not an illness.

Lets just hope he is ready for game 7 if the team gets there.

You could argue that his head snapped back again in the tussle with McAvoy. I’m going with concussion because I’ve had a concussion and the first few symptoms are illness like. Vomiting, headache, dizziness, drowsy.

The concussion stuff is nonsense. CJ said as well it happened off a hit in game 3/4. Most plausible is this:

His right leg definitely did not bend the way it normally would.

I had someone mention to me they saw on TV where they thought Matthews told the trainer "I can't skate". I also read/heard somewhere else that it wasn't classified as an upper-body injury, and instead a lower-body one. So it's quite plausible and likely that he is dealing with something that is severely hampering his ability to play. If he could push through it, I'm sure he would.

Out on the front line, don't worry I'll be fine...

His dwindling mobility was visible in real time.

There was no concussion protocol followed.

its knee injury - should be playing - thats why this group loses
Maybe you should deliver a few of these to the trainer then:
