I dont think one 15 second click of a couple of mistakes would be an issue. Its not like it would be the first time players are said to have done the wrong thing in the moment.

You’d be surprised. The Canes do have an unofficial rule about only showing the positive on the broadcast. It’s why they don’t do player interviews with those that are a minus in a game (if at all possible). It’s why they don’t really break down defensive mistakes on goals against.

Now I don’t know if it’s a rule coming down from upper, upper management, or if it’s because the producer will occasionally get texts from Waddell or rarely Dundon saying “Hey, drop this topic”, and it’s easier to just avoid situations where you might get those texts in the first place.

What would Erik Cole's purpose be if the broadcast can badmouth players?

Interesting, but makes sense.....now, if the contract was an arbitration versus free agency then a negative set of clips would probably come up and be used.

JG had a meh Islander series but very optimistic he will be a force against the Rangers (plus, want him re-signed).

Hasn't there sometimes been suggestions that the broadcast crew has apparently had instructions to badmouth a player with whom the contract negotiations fell through and the player signed elsewhere?

I don’t know about specifically badmouthing him, but I do know for a while, we couldn’t use clips that had Dougie in it. Like if there was a package celebrating Staal’s play (for example), but one of the clips had Dougie in the pile celebrating a goal, we couldn’t use it.

Daren is joined by Martin Necas (5:35) to talk about how the Carolina Hurricanes matchup with the NY Rangers, the intensity of Rod Brind'Amour during the playoffs, the personality of the group, including how Seth Jarvis and Brent Burns contribute to keeping the mood in the room lite. He talks about how the team has unfinished business after losing in the Eastern Conference final and explains how the Club understands that this roster will face a lot of turnover in the offseason. Plus, he shares thoughts on Jake Guentzel, Freddie Andersen and Andrei Svechnikov. Daren starts the episode asking an important question surrounding Alexander Ovechkin and reflecting on the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Good article on JG. One of the best articles and most thorough about the hurricanes on the Athletic.
Russo is great. Wild fans are lucky to have him. He also has real, insider insight with that team. I’d love to have that sort of coverage with a Canes’ reporter, but the closest we ever got was Civ, who would seem to rather cover hockey fashion than break news.

On the article, I think it’s more likely than not they re-sign Guentzel at this point, which is totally opposite how I initially felt when they acquired him. Necas and/or Kotkaniemi will probably be goners this summer, maybe Kuznetsov too.

Guentzel broke some ribs and his oblique muscle ripped right off the bone.

This news didn’t make me feel good about him getting hit a long the boards during these playoffs

That has to be an incredibly painful injury to bear and recover from. I broke ribs and basically curled up in the fetal position for two months.

So this may not mean anything, but before yesterday's game, I was told to keep an eye out for anything Guentzel does "good or bad."

Unfortunately, Guentzel did a lot of bad in Game 5, so I put together a package highlighting that, especially on the 2nd and 3rd goal against.

I was then told that package was good and they saw what I saw, but they couldn't air it because they don't want to give possible ammunition for the upcoming contract negotiations.
You were gathering intel for Dundon to show other teams to keep his price down. Congrats, you're part of the problem :sarcasm:

Guentzel, however, hopes he’s not just a hired gun or “rental.” There should be several teams interested, but there’s no doubt he would be interested in re-signing in Carolina after the year.

“Look at this place,” Guentzel said Thursday as he sat on the patio of a coffee shop in Raleigh after practice. “The weather’s great, the team’s great. I mean, great players, a great coach, and we play a style where there’s no ice, no room when you play us.

“The city’s great, the fans are amazing. This is a great hockey place. What’s not to like?”

But Guentzel said the last thing on his mind right now is where he’s going to play next season and beyond. His only goal is to help the Canes win their second Stanley Cup championship, plus he knows Carolina has tons of free agents to try to re-sign, including Priority No. 1 — Seth Jarvis.

“It’s hard to believe he’s only 22,” Guentzel said. “He has the whole world in his hands right now. He’s an unbelievable player.”

So we’re definitely looking at trying to keep Guenztal, but Jarvis is our initial focus. Good to know.

Jordan Staal is a Selke finalist. He’s not going to win (Barkov by a mile), but at least he’s a finalist. Also, Matthews is there as well.
I mean I know +/- isn't everything. But Staal had the 2nd worst +/- of his career and was worst on the team. Why is this the year he finally is a Selke finalist? He's had considerably better seasons over this one where he didn't even get considered as a finalist. Curious what got him nominated this year.

I think the FO would like to have any 8 year contract start with a 7....actually, knowing them, they'd want it to start with a 6.:thumbu:
I think Guentzel could get 7 years $10M from a poorer team. I think $64M is about the minimum it would take to get him to sign here. I'd love it to start with a 7 as well.

Honestly starting to think the answer at forward is keeping all of Jarvis, Necas and Guentzel while moving Koko and Kuzy and making Jarvis 2C. Turbo could stay and our top 6 is some form of:

Svech-Aho-Necas
Turbo-Jarvis-Guentzel

Keeping all 3 of those guys though almost certainly results in both Skjei and Pesce walking. Expected outcome anyways but that would all but ensure it. I think we could manage on the blueline with Orlov/Chatty 2nd pair and Morrow/ELC/cheaper vets filling out the 3rd pair. That is banking on Burn staying effective and sticking around a little while (although, even if he doesn't we've done pretty well at the 1RD spot under the borg -- Dougie, TDA, Burns have all stepped in next to Slavin seemlessly). Also I've posted it before and many think I'm crazy but I think we keep Orlov past his current deal for much cheaper longer term, even after Nikishin arrives.

It’s a reputation award and Bergeron finally retired.
